Overview
Arts & Science is seeking a talented Lab Demonstration Administrator to join the Department of Chemistry. This individual will provide administrative and technical support to the Chemistry Department, specifically the teaching laboratories. Prepares the labs for the many chemistry courses, including General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Biochemistry etc. Demonstrates and teaches students proper use of equipment, and chemical storage, use and care. Manages safe handling and disposal of chemical waste. Oversees the set-up of teaching labs for daily experiments; ensure cleanliness, sufficient supplies and chemicals during daily laboratory sessions. Oversees the preparation of solutions, reagents and unknowns for laboratory experiments and instruction (e.g., review handouts and procedures for accuracy; recommend alternative compositions). Manages inventory records, facilities management requests, and safety training records. Assists the lab manager and department leadership in future laboratory expansion needs.
Responsibilities
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in science related field.
Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and C-14 certification (FDNY Certificate of Fitness).
Required Experience: 3+ years related experience at a university or research laboratory.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of Chemistry. Working knowledge of industry standard chemical laboratory safety protocols with a strong commitment to laboratory safety. Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students and the general public. Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills. Must be able to physically move and/or lift heavy items of approximately 30+ libs. Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team. Eligible for a FDNY Certificate of Fitness. Operating knowledge of hand tools, and standard office equipment.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Advanced knowledge and ability in understanding chemical laboratory procedures. Will be required to acquire a certificate of fitness from the FDNY once employed by NYU.
Qualifications
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $70,000.00 to USD $75,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
