The Department of Pharmacy at The Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH) offers an ASHP-accredited PGY2 residency in infectious diseases that focuses on training highly qualified infectious diseases clinical pharmacists to successfully serve healthcare organizations as the ultimate resource for antimicrobial pharmacotherapy. The 12-month program is designed to expose the resident to a comprehensive range of infectious diseases, with core rotations including general infectious diseases consults, transplant infectious diseases, inpatient HIV/AIDS service, pediatric infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, foundations in clinical microbiology, and outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT). Learning experiences are primarily at JHH in East Baltimore, with limited experiences at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Longitudinally, the resident will have the opportunity to actively participate in hospital and health system level antimicrobial stewardship committee meetings, prepare/present drug monographs for formulary review, deliver formal and informal presentations to provide education to providers, pharmacists, nurses, etc., and conduct research. Residents will also participate in the on-call program/code response and staff in the adult inpatient pharmacy division.

From the 1889 opening of The Johns Hopkins Hospital, to the opening of the School of Medicine four years later, there emerged the concept of combining research, teaching and patient care. This model, the first of its kind, would lead to a national and international reputation for excellence and discovery.Today, Johns Hopkins uses one overarching name—Johns Hopkins Medicine—to identify its entire medical enterprise. This $6.7 billion system unites the physicians and scientists of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine with the health professionals and facilities that make up the broad, integrated Johns Hopkins Health System.
