The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary
Columbia University's Department of Microbiology & Immunology is seeking a highly motivated and energetic full-time Research Coordinator to join the Fidock Lab with a primary appointment in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology, and the Center for Malaria Therapeutics and Antimicrobial Resistance housed in the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine. This Research Coordinator will perform a variety of tasks to the advance the research and educational missions of the Center for Malaria Therapeutics and Antimicrobial Resistance in the Department of Medicine.
Responsibilities
The Research Coordinator will work directly with Dr. Fidock, the Center Director, and will be assigned tasks under the direct supervision of the Director. Responsibilities include:
Perform related research duties as assigned. This will include experiments to study Plasmodium falciparum resistance to antimalarial compounds. These include, but are not limited to: cell culture, PCR, resistance selections with antiparasitic compounds, drug assays, transfections, and microscope use.
Actively maintain the Center website as well as the Fidock Lab website. Also assist with keeping websites up to date for affiliated faculty members. Post and maintain social media uploads of important events or accomplishments.
Assist Center faculty members with preparation of grants, including scientific editing, working on figures and tables, and putting together ancillary documents such as biosketches, budgets, and justifications. This includes working with other administrators.
Assist with awarded grants including progress reports and project coordination and management.
Assist Center faculty with preparing manuscripts for initial submission, revision, and publication.
Help coordinate faculty interactions with external collaborators, including working on Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) documents, data sharing agreements, concept notes, and meetings plus their minutes.
Assist researchers with repository and sample management including for cryopreserved parasites, compound libraries, plasmids, DNA sequence files, and oligonucleotide primers. Help organize and maintain collections of experimental protocols.
Assist with travel arrangements as needed.
Logistically administer workshops, symposia, seminars, and invited speakers as needed, including assisting with event planning logistics.
Liaise with external and internal contacts including faculty, staff, students, visitors, and administrators.
Assist with onboarding new lab members as needed.
Reconcile laboratory purchases and place purchase orders.
Coordinate with technicians for the maintenance and repairs of laboratory equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor?s degree or equivalent with coursework in life sciences including microbiology, biochemistry and biostatistics.
Must have good working knowledge and functional use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
Evidence of writing skills and competency in Biological Sciences and English is important.
Position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills. Applicant must be able to write in a clear, concise, informative and professional manner.

Be highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with website design and Adobe Suite (Illustrator).
Evidence of experience working in a research laboratory is preferred.
