Position Focus:
Under the direction of the Stockroom Manager, responsible for timely acquisition, processing and distribution of research related materials, supplies and chemicals servicing the University Research Community.
Essential Duties
1. Fulfill customer orders by accurately picking items and packaging them for safe delivery, including hazardous DOT regulated materials.
2. Process customer billing using requisitions or point‑of‑sale transactions through the stockroom inventory system.
3. Place vendor orders, verify contract pricing, and monitor shipments to ensure timely delivery.
4. Track, analyze, and report inventory usage to maintain appropriate stock levels.
5. Assess stockroom needs and recommend product additions or removals as needed.
6. Work with vendors to resolve shipping issues, including errors, damages, or leaking materials.
7. Restock inventory across multiple locations, safely using rolling ladders when accessing high shelving.
8. Receive incoming shipments at the loading dock, including palletized deliveries using a pallet jack.
9. Serve as a resource to the Yale research community on chemicals, life science products, ordering procedures, storage requirements, and temperature controls.
10. Accurately receive and enter incoming inventory into the computerized system.
11. Store chemicals, laboratory supplies, and life science materials in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
12. Research and help resolve inventory discrepancies.
13. Perform clerical and administrative duties to support daily stockroom operations.
Required Skill/Ability
1.Demonstrated experience working in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment requiring multitasking and teamwork, with direct responsibility for shipping, receiving, purchasing, and inventory control operations.
2.Proven experience safely lifting and transporting materials up to 70 pounds, including restocking inventory across multiple locations using rolling ladders.
3.Direct experience delivering a high level of customer service, with strong interpersonal and communication skills when supporting a diverse customer base in person, by phone, and electronically and proficiency using office productivity software such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook beyond baseline competency, including report creation and data tracking.
4.Verified experience handling hazardous materials, including documented completion of MOT training for the safe transfer of hazardous materials.
5.Established experience using inventory management and procurement systems, including online purchasing platforms, to order, receive, track, and research supplies.

Principal Responsibilities
1. Provides specialized information on administrative, academic, financial aid, and procedural matters to students, prospective students, faculty, and staff. 2. Assists staff, faculty and students with the completion of forms. Identifies and resolves errors through contact with students and University departments. Maintains logs and records of activities. 3. Compiles statistical data and information. Establishes and maintains filing systems. 4. Uses computer terminal to input and retrieve data. Merges and manipulates filing systems. Monitors and reconciles financial data. 5. Keyboards letters, memoranda and other materials. Composes general written material. 6. Schedules and coordinates conferences, meetings, appointments, and classrooms. 7. May oversee and instruct support staff. 8. Performs clerical functions incidental to office activities.
Required Education and Experience
Four years of related work experience, two of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or two years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
