Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, invites applications for the position of HLA Fellow for specialized training in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics within the Department of Pathology.
· RUSH HLA Laboratory supports both solid organ transplant programs (kidney, heart, lung, liver, intestine) and hematopoietic stem cell transplant programs.
· This DIT position is designed to prepare fellows for board certification by the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI) and HLA Laboratory Director certification by the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI).
· This two-year fellowship provides specialized training in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics, equipping trainees with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to become histocompatibility directors.
· RUSH HLA Laboratory supports both solid organ transplant programs (kidney, heart, lung, liver, intestine) and hematopoietic stem cell transplant programs.
· This DIT position is designed to prepare fellows for board certification by the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI) and HLA Laboratory Director certification by the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI).
Key Responsibilities:
Advanced Training – Providing in-depth education in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics using state-of-the-art diagnostic techniques.
Clinical Consultation – Developing expertise in clinical consultation and gaining insight into the patient populations served by the laboratory.
Laboratory Management – Training in the principles and practices of laboratory management. Certification Preparation – Ensuring trainees acquire the necessary knowledge and experience to qualify for ACHI board certification.
Upon successful completion of the two-year program, fellows may be considered for a two-year extension (total of four years) based on performance, competency, and departmental funding.
The position will assist with providing on call services to ensure 24 hours a day, 7 day a week coverage year round, including holidays.
Qualifications – must hold one of the following:
•A Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.), or Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (D.P.M.) and eligible for medical licensure in the state of Illinois
•A doctoral degree (Ph.D. or D.Sc.) in biological or chemical sciences, medical technology, or laboratory science (DCLS).
•Relevant fields include molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, immunology, anatomical sciences, microbiology, genetics, and organic chemistry.

Rush offers competitive total compensation that includes base pay, benefits, and other incentive programs for our employees. The total pay range shown reflects the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, knowledge and skills; relevant experience and training; education, certifications, and licensure; primary work location; and other business and organizational factors. This total pay range is for a full-time, 1.0 FTE employee, and includes any incentive payments that may be applicable to this role, as well as additional compensation such as sign-on and retention bonuses and relocation allowances. Opportunities for increased compensation based on exceeding productivity targets. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package.
Pay Range: $75,000 - $80,000 per year
