The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Cornell is a world-class department that conducts research and teaching in the area of general molecular biology and genetics. The Liu Lab uses the free-living nematode C. elegans as a model system to discover new players and dissect their mechanisms of action in a highly conserved signaling pathway, the BMP (bone morphogenetic protein) pathway. We use a combination of molecular, genetic and biochemical approaches for these studies. Results from these studies will contribute to the general understanding of developmental processes and fundamental mechanisms involved in cell-cell signaling.
