Job Description: What We Are Looking For
The Wright Group in the Departments of Biology and Chemistry & Biochemistry at Baylor University is seeking multiple postdoctoral research associates with expertise in chemical biology and/or chemoproteomics.
The Wright Group is focused on phenotype-driven studies of gut and oral microbiomes. Within this focus, the research group has a strong program in the synthesis and application of chemical probes in complex biological systems and measurements of probe labeling by LC-MS based proteomics, fluorescence microscopy, and cell sorting. This position will primarily support research to develop and apply chemical probes for the selective isolation of pathogens from oral microbiomes.
We are hoping to extend our expertise by identifying exceptionally motivated individuals with a Ph.D. and a background in chemical biology, with priority given to candidates with expertise in synthesizing and using chemical probes or protein-targeting small molecules. Candidates with expertise in probe-dependent cell sorting or chemoproteomics experience are aligned well with the needs of the position.
Candidates must have obtained a Ph.D. and have a background in chemical biology, organic chemistry, or a related field prior to beginning their assignment. The candidate must be able to independently design and execute experiments.
Additional skills of interest include experience in one or more of the following areas: application of chemical molecules/tools to biological systems, cell sorting, pathogen biology, proteomics, chemical synthesis, microbiology, protein expression, cell culture, cell biology, molecular biology, and/or functional assays.
What You Will Do
Develop and execute independent research in phenotype-driven microbiome studies using chemical biology strategies
Perform laboratory research using chemical biology, with heavy emphasis on selective isolation of cells from microbiomes based on phenotype
Develop statistically rigorous cell sorting and proteomics data analysis workflows in conjunction with bioinformaticians in the group
Collaboratively develop novel ideas and methods for applications relevant to internal and externally funded research programs. In addition, the selected candidate will be required to contribute to, and possibly lead, the preparation of reports, papers, posters, presentations, etc
Keep accurate and current records of all results from experiments performed, document methods and processes
Present your research
Provide mentorship to graduate and undergraduate students
Participate in the proposal writing and submission process
Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission
Ability to comply with university policies
Maintain regular and punctual attendance
A complete application will contain the following documents:
Up-to-date CV
List of 3 references that will be able to supply a letter of recommendation upon request
Cover letter, which should include a concise Research Statement
