Responsible for operation of a specialized breast cancer research laboratory with one or more faculty members within a department and/or works in specialized research area. May act as liaison with other departments, divisions or organizations. Develops, designs and conducts one or more small or moderately complex research experiments in line with plan, reviews progress and evaluates results. Formulates research methods and suggests options for improving quality, identifies potential problems, recommends and implements solutions, and collaborates in the development of new techniques. Trains users and students in equipment operation and laboratory techniques, explains and demonstrates technology and equipment capabilities, operations, limitations and outcomes. Coordinates data collection and screening and verifies the data. Conducts analysis of data, interprets and implements research methodology based on outcome of analysis. Co-authors publications and may co-present results with Principal Investigator at meetings and/or conferences. Has oversight for day-to-day operation of laboratory and may supervise exempt and non-exempt research and support personnel.

Created and maintained IRB applications, renewals, amendments, deviations, protocol and informed consent documents for multiple human research studies using eResearch (10%).
Extracted relevant clinical data from study participants using MiChart and EMERSE to create detailed databases, identify eligible patients for study recruitment, and coordinate longitudinal specimen collection across several concurrent studies (10%).
Obtained informed consent and collected blood samples following standard venipuncture technique from healthy study participants (10%).
Processed, analyzed, and banked human blood and cerebrospinal fluid samples from multi-institutional clinical trials for translational research (10%)
Cultured human cancer cell lines using sterile techniques (5%).
Performed next generation sequencing of ctDNA and FFPE tissue samples (5%).
Communicated with collaborators from within UM and outside industry partners/sponsors to coordinate multiple, concurrent project details, update study documentation and laboratory certifications, and quality check and prepare data for analysis (10%).
Prepared preliminary data for presentation at internal laboratory meetings, national conferences, and incorporation into grant applications (10%).
Contributed to laboratory publications including data analysis, table and figure preparation, manuscript writing and editing, and manuscript submission (10%).
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position and 4 to 5 years related experience.
Supervisory and financial management experience preferred.
Over 5 years of basic and clinical translational breast cancer research including extensive knowledge in laboratory techniques and clinical human research regulatory policies.
This position is 40 hours / week split between the lab and breast cancer clinic.
